Hey, I'm sorry if this is the wrong spot to post this, if it is, feel free to move it. But I have a question....
Is december (particularly over Xmas time) a good time for peacock bass?
I'm from Canada and my buddy and I are looking at doing some fishing over the Xmas holidays, and he suggested Peacock bass or redfish. We are both wanting action.
And if so, any suggestions on where to go and who to go with?

Right now other than a few cool days the temps have been okay as average 60s/70s at night.

I am in Miami and they are biting so/so now but the ideal time is summer.This is the tail end of PB season.

HOTTER the better.

When night temps continue for a month in 60s or cooler they dissapear. Imagine go deeper water or stop biting.

The cold spell 2 yrs ago was simply brutal on the canal locked PB and most died but this summer I saw enough spawning pairs in the areas I fish .

Either way Dec to March is not good for PB but you can still catch them now and next weeks temps are still acceptable but again not ideal.


They don't bite at night but I use night temps more or less as guide when they stop biting.

Great article I had no idea they died when water temps drop below 65 ,thought they could go lower.

The cold spell 2 yrs ago wiped out about 80% of the PB in my area. Slowly they are recovering.

Countless in Miami-dade which is where they are found keep everything they catch and will even remove spawning pairs and keep them which is why I keep my areas secret as I catch /release and don't bother them when they are guarding eggs.

No reason to keep Peacocks when you have much better tasting fish out in the salt.
