Hello everyone.
I am brand new to Florida and I might have a chance to go out in a boat on Monday. More than likly we may be fishing around the Skyway bridge. I know we will be using live shrimp and then using something called a sabiki rig to catch some other type of bait. Once we get the bait I have no idea how to rig it? I think we are going to be anchored and just drop our bait down. How would I set it up and fish it. I used to use live bullheads when fishing in California, would it be the same? A bead on the main line a sliding sinker with a 1-2oz weight then another bead then a barrel swivel then a 24" leader then the hook then the fish or shrimp on the hook and drop it all the way down till the weight hits the bottom. Thats how I fished live bait before but I don't know if it's different here? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You are right on track with the rigging. I usually Carolina rig and add a bead over the swivel to protect the knot. The size of the weight will depend on the current and depth you are fishing. Sometimes a light weight can allow your bait more movement.

Here's a tip that a lot of people don't think about ... try rigging from the bottom of the bait between the middle and tail fin. The bait swims up from the bottom, so rigging under the bait will allow for better movement.

Bridge fishing is usually productive. Post a few photos if you get to go. And hopefully there isn't a resident hammerhead waiting to steal everything you hook.
