We are going to Marathon this coming month of March.
Any advice on fishing.
We will fish off a 30’ boat.

It's wide open in a 30' boat in March.

Here's a decent calendar to go by. Dave Navarro of World Class Angler in Marathon used to always remind everyone in his Thursday night fishing classes to fish what is in season. If you are going to the Keys targeting a specific species, make sure you pick a time when they are in the area.

I lived in Marathon and basically did nothing but fish for a year. If you are looking for more specific information, please let me know.

Thank you for the reply
I have vacationed in Marathon for 5 or6 years. But I’m always trying to improve my fishing abilities there.
I fish Lake Michigan all but the 4 cold months.
We have been slowly getting better at yellowtail snapper just off Hawk Chanel, just keeper snapper on the bay side. We have been working on improving the dolphin catch.

Don't be afraid to go light on the yellowtail. I use 10 pound test fluorocarbon on a spinning reel with a very small hook. Get your chum going good for about 15 minutes, draw them up and hide a a small piece of squid or cut bait on a 4-6 Octopus Hook and free-line the bait. You can also have a second chum bag sunk below the boat at about 12-18 feet.

As for dolphin, I love catching them on 15 pound test. I find a group and throw out a little cut bait to get them excited. You can catch them on slabs, jigs, MirrOlures, 1oz. Rat-L-Traps and a variety of baits by casting (don't forget topwaters - they are a blast). We do usually stick with 20 pound test and trolling for bulls.

Last year we where in Marathon the month of April, We trolled a few times for dolphin and only caught two. One time a few miles off Sombrero light we ran into hundreds of dolphins trolling and stopped and threw cut bait at them with no takers.
I hope to do better this year, would March be less productive than April for dolphin?

Best dolphin bite is generally April to September. They like it hot.

Are there any redfish to be caught in the Marathon area in March?
In the 6 years I’ve been fishing March or April in Marathon I have never try or caught a redfish.
Every year I learn a little more but we are still very green at this Keys fishing

I didn't chase redfish much in the Keys, but I think your best bet is leaving from Islamorada and going to the Backcountry area.

This guide has some good info on his web site: http://www.snookonthefly.com

I chase the redfish in Louisiana and Texas. Here's a nice Texas Red for you. Caught this one near the North Galveston Jetty.

very nice redfish.
This is the time of year I start thinking of fishing Marathon.
At least the month of march.
I fish Lake Michigan most of the other time.
